Hurricane Florence made landfall last week devastating homes and businesses across the Carolinas. Unfortunately, Florence is still hanging around causing major flooding. In Charleston, we were lucky. Now it’s time to help those who weren’t so lucky. If you’d like to or are able to give, we’ve listed a few of the organizations involved in recovery efforts below.
Nationwide Efforts
- Make a donation through American Red Cross.
- Amazon Alexa customers can also donate to the Red Cross by saying “Alexa, make a donation to Hurricane Florence”.
- Purchase an item from the Diaper Bank of North Carolina’s Amazon Wishlist. These items are specific to the needs of the families in shelters.
- Make a donation through Salvation Army.
- Donate a meal through Harvest Hope Food Bank to those affected by Hurricane Florence. A $10 donation could help provide 50 meals for hurricane victims.
- Make a donation through Habitat for Humanity.
- Make a donation through UNICEF.
Charleston Efforts
- Charleston Animal Society is evacuating animals across the coast. Help their efforts by donating here.
- Blood donations are needed. Find your nearest donation center here.
- “Fighting Flo in the Lowcountry” is accepting canned goods, toilet paper, hygiene supplies, batteries, etc. For more information on their drop off locations, check out their Facebook page.
- First Scots Presbyterian Church is accepting donations (list of requested donations here) and is also in need of volunteers. A group plans to take supplies to Wilmington, N.C., this week, perhaps as early as Tuesday.
